Distribution: Found throughout Wiltshire, can occur in large numbers when the habitat permits.


Identification:
The Male can confused with both the Broad-bodied Chaser and Scarce Chaser, the Black-tailed Skimmer has a black tip to the abdomen (which distinguishes it from the broad bodied chaser) and has no dark patches at the base of its wings (which separates it from the Scarce Chaser). The female (and immature males) have a unique cryptic black patterning on the yellow abdomen which is unmistakeable.

County Status: Widespread, can occur in large numbers.
