Distribution: Widespread, the commonest damselfly, can be encountered almost anywhere, but never found in great numbers.
Identification: The Blue-tailed Damselfly closely resembles the much less common Scarce Blue Tailed Damselfly. The males can be identified as the whole of abdominal segment 8 is completely blue, whereas in the Scarce Blue Tailed, segment 8 is only partly blue and segment 9 is completely blue. There are several colour forms of the female. County Status: Widespread and common. |
