Club Tailed Dragonfly
|
Distribution: This is a riverine species and as yet there have been no breeding colonies found in Wiltshire. However, the species does occur on both the river Avon and river Thames in neighbouring counties. The distribution map reflects records on singleton's that have dispersed from their breeding area's. Identification: The Club-tailed dragonflies are a large group of dragonflies that are unfortunately only represented in the UK by one species. Identification is therefore relatively straightforward, this is the only UK dragonfly that does not have it's eyes meeting on top of it's head. The body pattern of black and yellow is also unique amongst UK dragonflies. Males and females are similar. County Status: Rare. |
