Common Hawker

Distribution: Scarce, only found on neutral or acidic waterbodies. Hasn't been recorded breeding in the County since the late 90's, there has been a general decline in the numbers for this species in Southern England in the last ten years (although there are still strong colonies in the Mendip Hills in neighbouring Somerset) and it may now only be found as a passing vagrant in Wiltshire.

Identification: Both the male and female have a bright yellow costa (which is not particularly obvious in flight), this feature is diagnostic.

County Status: Uncommon.
