Distribution: Fairly widespread in Wiltshire, but never common. Usually found in dense vegetation by the edge of pools, lakes and canals.

Identification: The Emerald Damselfly is easily identified in Wiltshire, as it is the only medium sized green bodied damselfly. It is also the only species which perches with its wings half open. There are a further three species of emerald damselfly now recorded from the UK, but these are extremely rare and unlikely to be encountered in Wiltshire. The males have blue eyes and a powder blue coating on abdominal segments one and two as well as nine and ten.

County Status: Widespread but uncommon.
