Lesser Emperor

Distribution: A solitary male was first recorded in the Cotswold Waterpark during July 2005. It coincided with a spate of records throughout the Country. In 2006 further records were obtained from the Cotswold waterpark including an ovipositing pair. It is now believed that the Lesser Emperor is in the process of colonising the UK.

Identification: Similar to the slightly larger Emperor Dragonfly. The male has a conspicuous sky blue patch at the base of the abdomen. Both the female and male have yellow band at the base of abdominal  segment two.

County Status: Increasingly common vagrant.
