Small Red-eyed Damselfly

Distribution: The Small Red-eyed damselfly has now been discovered at Coate Water Country Park (Swindon) by Steve Covey on the 25th July 2006. It is however rapidly colonising Southern England including Wiltshire and can now be expected at any pond or lake where suitable habitat exists.

Identification: The Small Red-eyed damselfly is very similar to the Red Eyed Damselfly. The male apart from it's smaller size can be separated by the fact that there is a black 'X' mark on abdominal segment 10. In the female the yellow antehumeral stripes are complete.

County Status: Widespread across Wiltshire.
