Southern Hawker

Distribution: Widespread throughout Wiltshire, This hawker is often found in gardens and parks, but tends to be solitary. Can be very inquisitive and will closely approach people.

 

Identification: The male is identified by the green spotted abdomen culminating in blue stripes on segments 9 and 10, in flight the green body with blue abdominal tip are easy to look for. The female is similar apart from segments 9 and 10 are the same green as the rest of the body.

County Status: Widespread and common.
