Variable Damselfly

Distribution: Represented by only one record for Wiltshire published in the Report of the Marlborough College Natural History Society,  1932 (pp.36-37). The specimen was captured on 22nd July 1932 at a pond behind the scout hut at College Field. The specimen has not been located to confirm the determination.

Identification: Most likely to be confused with the Common Blue Damselfly and the Azure Damselfly with which it shares many habitats. The male can be identified from the broken antehumeral stripes (which resemble an exclamation mark) and the wine glass black markings on abdominal segment two.

County Status: Only one record from 1932.
